The latest Ofcom “Connected Nations” report is fresh off the press this December; and it is a damning reminder of the digital divide between urban and rural areas.
In Edinburgh 85% of properties can get ultrafast broadband (100 Mbps or faster) and 40% can get gigabit broadband (1,000 Mbps or faster). This compares with just 7.3% ultrafast and 4.7% gigabit in Kinross-shire. So there has been ten times more progress rolling out ultrafast and gigabit broadband in Edinburgh than in Kinross-shire.
Gigabit Kinross-shire want to close this urban-rural divide and progress towards 100% gigabit capable broadband.
Obviously this is a bold ambition, but we are getting started with an initial project in Kinross for 113 premises, which will demonstrate for everyone how to go about securing upgrades. Further projects can start right away, and you can register interest to find out how here.
